Bobby Bragan Collegiate Slugger Award Unveils 2020 Watch List
The Bobby Bragan Collegiate Slugger Award (BBCSA) presented by SR Bats announced today the players on its watch list for the 2020 college baseball season. The award, created by the Bobby Bragan Youth Foundation, was open to nominations from all Division I baseball programs in the country. The BBCSA is based on performance at the plate, academics and personal integrity.
This year's watch list consists of 36 players representing 16 conferences around the country, including all five power conferences.
"Our first national watch list for the Bobby Bragan Collegiate Slugger Award presented by SR Bats is outstanding." said Tracy Taylor, executive director of the Bobby Bragan Collegiate Slugger Award. "Going national is a big step for us and to have the quality of student-athletes nominated by their programs was extremely rewarding.
"The amount of All American and All Conference recognition these players have earned on the playing field is impressive. But just as important is the number of academic honors; Academic All American, Scholar of the Year, Academic All Conference, that sets these young men apart. For example, the 2020 Watch List includes the player with the best batting average in college baseball last season and another young man who graduated in three years with a degree in finance and is working on his MBA. It is a testament to Bobby Bragan and his vision that his foundation and namesake award are thriving."
"This year’s Bobby Bragan watch list has some of the top collegiate hitters from 16 conferences and is made up of many who will undoubtedly grace major league rosters in the not-too-distant future," said Paul Rogers, BBCSA selection committee chairman. "Among them are 14 seniors, 19 juniors, and three sophomores from all sections of the country."
The BBCSA originally started out in 2017 as an honor going to the top college hitter in Texas. In 2019, the BBCSA expanded becoming a regional award covering Division I programs in Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico and Oklahoma.
The winner of the BBCSA will be announced in June and honored at a gala in the fall at the Fort Worth Club. Texas Tech’s Hunter Hargrove won the initial BBCSA in 2017. Dallas Baptist’s Devlin Granberg took home the honor in 2018 with Texas Tech’s Josh Jung winning the award in 2019.
